Books I Read in February

Lilac Girls was not the easiest read. It is WW2 historical fiction and describes two real women and how their lives intersect with a fictional third woman. One woman is a NY socialite who constantly looks for ways the serve, another is a German doctor who performs medical experiments, the third is a Polish woman who is sent to a German concentration camp where the doctor works. Not easy, but definitely a valuable read.

Roll of Thunder takes place in the south during the 1930s. Told from the perspective of a 10 year old girl, it describes her (black) family’s struggle to hold onto their land in the midst of great racial tension.

Remarkable Creatures is the intriguing tale of real women who discovered fossils and even full dinosaur skeletons during the Victorian age in coastal England.

The Millionaire Next Door is one of those books that either you have read or you haven’t. And if you haven’t, you definitely should! It describes (in the late 1990s) how the average millionaire does not look like what most people think a millionaire should look like. And how they earned their status.

I highly recommend all of these books. Even difficult-to-read books have valuable lessons.
